Anthony David was born on 2ND JUNE 1964, with parents from a rich cultural heritage of mixed blood – Chinese and Dutch Indonesian, the youngest of 7 siblings. He grew up with a happy fun filled environment. A young man he was found to have a Blessed Gift - artistic and creative personality.
He studied in Singapore and since young age he showed a lot of creativity well beyond his age! It started with a box of Luna Color Pencils given to him by his mother for his birthday and has never stop drawing ever since!
During secondary school day’s, as a teenager it was tough times for him both in and out of school, for being a creative, outgoing active character and a sort of a rebel, he was the odd one out! Coming from a poor family, and his father had since passed away when he was only two years old, his mother was the bread winner and have to support him, he manage to complete his studies with flying colors, during that time he started to show a remarkable set of artistic skills and creativity, his art teachers then encouraged and nurtured his many artistic talents, he got involved in many art competitions and art activities & projects in and out of school.
He very promising student and remarkably showed great artistic nature and won many local art competitions and which helped to make him quite popular in school. His art teachers made a big impact in his life in helping to realize his potential to do well in the Artfield. Those days he loved painting and drawing, only as hobby but sadly no attention was given to develop it further.
He was grown up young man began working in the hotel industry as chef apprentice in a famous restaurant of a 5 stars hotel. He continued to excel in the artistic culinary skills in cooking, doing chocolate paintings, butter sculpturing, food presentations when was in training and discovered more unique artistic culinary world can offer. Promoted very quickly through the ranks and higher position as a Hotel Food Artist & Decorator, he advanced into many others areas of his works, constantly been given many opportunities improving the overall image of the hotel areas and always working to provide the best in food presentation and special theme functions for the hotels he worked. He artistic works became a passion and brought him a lot of culinary accolades and international awards thus opening many jobs offers to work overseas. He taken advantage of going overseas and worked in many prestigious 5 stars hotels, on board cruise ships food industries related thus involved in designing, implementing, upgrading and artistic input wherever there’s a need and chance given to explore his talents for a few years and thus earning him a good reputation in the culinary Arts.
Spending more than 15 years working in the food / hotel industry beginning humbly from a steward to apprentice cook thus became an award winning Master Chef internationally, he was still capable and driven to provide interestingly artistic, bold and original creativeness in culinary food, restaurant designs, innovative approach to setting ups and high standards as well. But his inner personal calling constantly pursuits for excellence as being a True Artist was dormant moved him to start opening and exploring himself into becoming a reality … realizing a need to satisfy the inner calling and dream to be a Artist.
Searching to be inspired as well as motivated when he got a chance to paint seriously when he was working in U.S.A, Europe, Japan, Australia, and Middle East, where he was greatly exposed to Arts, cultural, sites and life aspects of his many experiences in his traveling. He decided to be more than working for living but remembering the love for his to paint, from there on he pursue it since. Self-reliant sand self -determination set him free to do what he wanted.
Many sacrifices and time were made and he followed his heart passionately to many Fine-arts exhibitions, visiting great galleries and World’s leading museums and investing much effort and acquired many great art books and studied and attending master classes, knowledge for other Artworks from various Master Painters. Affection for much wanting to gain this desire to be good Artist, he decide to be not just a normal all rounded Artist but a True Painter.
Started painting for friends as a hobby for self -satisfaction but gotten popular with many friends he painted for. Self -taught, driven, full of energy, with spirit and boldness and self confidence in passionately learning to paint well with Heart, intelligently as well as skillfully was the key in him to be potentially a Great Artist in the making!
Being fast and furiously style and energetic painter, he used impasto and palette style- method of painting, using pure, brightly oil colors unmixed directly from the tube, mixed aggressively impressionistically with a soft and bold strokes gusto in manner on to a virgin gesso white canvas of every size!!
Brilliantly, vibrantly splatters in an ecstasy of colors, executed with spirit and gusto were very well like be him on the canvas, showing his full confidence and exuberant media seemingly effortless mostly seen in many of his paintings and artworks. Flowers, animals in action and people of activities are all expresses fullness and joys for life are indeed his forte en force!
Thus he works is with contemporary expressionist in motion with fluid in motion strokes that seems inter-dimensionally interesting to look at while he works on the canvas. He got very unique way mastering in handling wet on wet style of painting technique and attacks on the focus of the topic into lively encounter within the element, surprising twisting, stroking, almost sword-wielding palette, thick and thin amounts of oil paints, powerfully charged-up and faintly feather-like brush at times, touching the very essence of oneness with the topic which is very difficult for others to imitate or reproduce the same on each painting.
